Individual Industry has started it's musical activities in 1987 as solo project of Alex Twin. In 1990 Maurizio Bonito and Lilian Vaz joined the band and six months later they released their first official demo tape called 'Apology'. They did more than 30 concerts between 1991-1997 and got lots of European radio plays. Band's music ranges from melancholic ethereal wave pop in best 4.A.D. traditions to trip-hop and synth-pop tunes mixed up with elements of Brazilian traditional music, making Individual Industry's sound something special.
Catching melodies, lush arrangements, sensual female voice and dreamy atmospheres brought the band lots of fans and positive reviews around the globe. Over the past two decades the band took a part in dozen compilations, recorded two critically acclaimed albums, one MCD and extra limited (100 units or so) 2xCDR collection of rarities out in 2003 on Alex's own Wave Records.
Other Voices bring you an essential collection of musical pearls, rarities, re-mixes and new stuff, all the best the band has recorded during its more than twenty years career. Now join their sentimental journey through the dreamfields!
Side-Line:
I've to say Individual Industry is not exactly a renowned band in Europe. Hailing from Brazil they have been already active for more than 20 years. The most noticeable albums from the band were released on the legendary Brazilian label Cri Du Chat (mainly known for having released Simbolo). We recently welcomed the new album "Dreams Never End" released by Wave Records, which was a kind of 'look back' as well. This CD released by Other Voices Records (Russia) takes us back in time again, summarizing 20 years of Individual Industry.
This is the opportunity to get back to the albums "Templus Probus" and "Ice Water" (both released on Cri Du Chat), the mini CD "Amy" and "The Box" (both released on Wave Propaganda) plus a few rare songs originally released on compilations. Throughout the years the main members remained Alex Twin and Maurizio Bonito while two female vocalists were also active in the band. We also get the contribution of a huge number of guest artists. The most famous and according to me surprising input comes from the legendary French project Kas Produkt (cf. "Tina Town").
For all those who never heard of Individual Industry before this project has always experienced with ethereal and gothic influences. They also liked to work with trip-pop influences, which finally resulted in some remarkable songs. "Key Of Dreams", but especially "Primer (Tripping Mix '97)" both are excellent cuts. The songs are wafting, ethereal and trip-pop like. "Primer" even reminds me of Everything But The Girl, which I think is more than simply a reference. In a more guitar-wave style the "Frozen World Mix '97" of "Places" is one more song to look out for. I'll complete the list of recommendations by the darker sounding "Viginti Millia" and "Lupus Et Agnus" both songs taken us back to the debut CD (1993).
Nothing really new from Individual Industry, but a good opportunity to discover a cool band from Brazil, which is not dealing with dark electronics.
